Are there scripts for adjusting the balance and side bearings of glyphs?

I know that for basic Latin letters, uppercase letters use “O” and “H” as reference points, while lowercase letters use “o” and “n.” Scripts like “AOHHOA” and “aonnoa” exist for this purpose. I would like to know if there are similar scripts for numbers or symbols.

I think you are talking about sample texts/strings, not scripts. Sample texts are a world within itself, with many people having their own preferences and custom sample texts for spacing and kerning. Jonathan Hoefler has published a document with such strings, for example.

For numbers, depending on the style, I would suggest spacing them between capital H. At least for (proportional) lining figures.

Otherwise, I would suggest writing a quick Python script that generates a whole sample text with all possible number combinations.

Did you check the sample strings (Cmd+Opt+F)?

thanks for your answer. it helps me a lot

I’m getting more familiar with the Glyphs program. Thank you for explaining the features. it was helpful.
