Autohint for variable fonts

Are variable fonts autohinted?
If there are hinting instructions what happens?

Last time I checked the autohinting wasn’t working well. The version in Glyphs doesn’t support hinting variable fonts.

Yes. TT hints inserted with the TT instruction tool are exported into the variable font.
