Copying text as glyphs rather than text

Is there any way to copy the actual glyphs displayed in text mode rather than the underlying text? By that I mean it would be useful if I could:

  1. type some text in an edit tab
  2. set an opentype feature that changes the appearance (e.g. small caps)
  3. select the text with this option enabled
  4. open a new edit tab and paste those glyphs (so though no opentype features are set for this tab, I get /o.sc/n.sc/c.sc/e.sc etc.)

I would find this very handy for generating test strings with which I could compare small caps to lowercase, oldstyle figures to lining, etc. As it is I find myself having to Cmd-F every small caps letter which is a pain.

The option is in the context menu.

So it is! Thanks Georg!
