I have had two unrelated users contacting me about this issue in three different fonts.
When letter a is typed in MS Publisher, the whole text field goes blank and needs to be deleted or a new document has to be created.
They can install the font as usual, and use it in all software they’ve tried except Microsoft Publisher. They can use all other fonts normally. All other letters in the font except for letter a are working normally.
The issue was fixed in one of the fonts by removing alternate letters and OpenType features.
But there was no alternate letter a or any other feature relating specifically to the glyph, which leads me to think this is not an issue with that letter.
I am doing more testing to find out what the exact error might be, but thought I’d ask you experts too.
Do you know what may be causing this? Is Publisher performing a certain action when letter a is typed?
I heard from another person who had found my post on this forum and had the same issue with a Google font in MS Publisher. This seemed to also have been appearing this year.
I also found another message that appears related (same issue) from the date 23/06/2024.
If this is true, this is a major bug in MS Publisher. Nothing in a font should be able to bring down an app like this.
The only thing remotely similar I remember is a font conflict on installation. Did you supply both OTF and TTF to the clients? Or multiple versions of the font?
That is possible, of course, but then again, the report has been that this is something that is occurring primarily with my fonts, during the last year. And only fonts I have created over the last few years, no such reports of my older fonts.
Maybe I was unclear: The software does not completely crash. What appears to be happening is that the text field goes blank when letter a is typed.
