Crashes and sluggishness

Hi guys,

I am experiencing quite annoying bugs recently. I had a quite old version which I updated to the most recent cutting edge version. The constant crashes were unbearable. Happened every time I would use the type tool and wanted to delete or type in a character.
Then I downgraded to the last “stable” Version 2.6 (1192), not so many crashes but some still. Extremely slow or even crashing when using the type tool to type or delete characters.
I don’t know what to do, I kind of wish I didn’t upgrade at all… worst part is I don’t remember what exact version I had to begin with, my guess is an early 2.5 or 2.6.

I am on a new MBP with 32GB of RAM and all the bells and whistles and it feels sluggish in Glyphs app. I have 2 font files with about 1600 glyphs in two masters open all the time in split fullscreen mode with Synced Tabs plugin.

Any suggestions or emotional help would be appreciated.

That is strange. I don’t see many crash reports lately. Please send all of them with a small note or at least your name.

And can you send me a screenshot or better screen recording of the sluggishness?

I sent two crash reports without info about 1-2 hours ago.
But I don’t get crash reports anymore, it just hangs forever and when I force quit it reopens the files like nothing happened.
I will try to replicate some of the bugs and make screen recordings.

Here is a quick video of the kind of lag I experience.
From the moment the mouse stops moving until the highlight happens I have a spinning ball which you cannot see in the video. I just pushed shift+right on the keyboard to select Alphapsiliprosgegrammeni. It took about 17 seconds.

Does it happen when you disable plugins? Looks like you got the Synced Tabs plugin running?

First, can you try starting Glyphs without plugins (hold the option+Shift key when starting the app)?
And could you do a spindump (in Activity Monitor.app, from the gear button in the toolbar. It will produce a rather big text file)

I add the problem in this topic because it is about the last cutting edge version of Glyphs 2.6.1 (1222)
It is not possible now to export a font if features are expanded. In the last version it worked without a problem.

I have just started the app without plugins like Georg described and so far no sluggishness. So I started the app with the plugins again… it worked for two selections and then sluggishness again.

So I uninstalled all the plugins for which I don’t have an immediate use to narrow down the options. Then I tried turning them off and on one by one.

Guess what I found out?
It really only happens when Synced Tabs is turned on.

So, Marc, I guess this is a mission for you. I really love your plugin, can’t work without it. I hope you can find a solution.

Do you see anything written in the Macro Panel, when that happens? Or in the system Console (if you filter there for “Glyphs” or “Synced”)

Can you try the latest beta please. Go to Glyphs > Preferences > Updates, activate both checkboxes and press the Update button.
