I have a glyphs file with 3 Masters (Sans, Sans Italic and Serif) and 2 axis (Italic and Serif). I’d like to export the Sans + Sans Italic as Variable. For that I can add “Disable Master” in the export menu which works, but I was wondering if you could get a feature (or if it already exists) to have “Enforce Compatibility” only active for certain masters. I’d like to make sure that Sans + Sans Italic are compatible, ideally with having those little red flags on the glyphs. The Serif I don’t care about in terms of compatibility, but in terms of drawing it makes sense to keep it in the same file.
The compatibility check is triggered for masters that are required for interpolation of intermediate instances. So, I would suggest adding a temporary instance halfway between the two masters you want to check. Remove the “Enforce compatibility check” parameter.

Thanks Sebastian, what you’re suggesting makes sense! Maybe not the best workflow(?), but it works. Possibly a feature request for v4 tho?
you need the “Enforce compatibility check” and uncheck it. That way it will look at the instances as Sebastian explained.
