Hello
So I’ve made a font with 4 masters. (Thin, Bold and Thin condensed and Bold Condensed) If I try to make a test export, glyphs crashes with the following message:
“Something went wrong when Removing Overlap in glyph: B.salt” (in black weight) Okay… so I’ve tried to fix B.slat, but every time I try to export it still crashes.
(glyphs version: 3.1.2, OSX: 10.11.6)
So therefore I inactivated the remove Overlap checkbox. But then, the Glyph order went into chaos, but just over the black weight.
And the way the bowl and the stem connect it not good. It will produce unexpected curves and most likely will not be smooth. This should help: Drawing good paths | Glyphs
I guess I know what was wrong. The handle was too short on the bold weight, but the other handle on the light was too long. So after the interpolation, these handles went in the opposite direction.
Well, I’ve studied these articles. But that can happen.
Anyway thanks @GeorgSeifert
BTW… Is there something, like a plugin to Mark those “problematical” Glyphs?
Something like, if I “generate instances” some glyphs with bad lines will be marked.
You probably should replace the bold masters with the boldest instances interpolation. Then you avoid the extrapolation and you have much more control.
I don’t realy know what I did… (I worked on some accented characters on the bold master)
But after exporting a couple of times… now it’s working fine.
(I’ve shot down glyphOrder as well)
Yes you’re right @GeorgSeifert … I just wanted to make a Base for the Black weight. There is a lot to doo.
How are you checking the glyph order? I strongly suspect a font cache issue.
Don’t always re-install your font, that won’t work reliably. Try web applications like fontgauntlet.com instead, or use the Fonts folder for Adobe applications.
