I’ve created an experimental font that uses randomised contextual alternates (using THIS helpful guide). When the font is typed in the edit view in Glyphs, the stylistic sets are randomised (so the same versions of the letters don’t appear together).
I’ve now exported and installed the font, but when I’m using this in InDesign the randomisation is not there, only the first stylistic set is typed out.
I’m not sure if this is an issue with the way I’ve exported the file, or is it a setting within InDesign that I need to manually change?
Thanks I will read through this. As for how I installed it, just the usual way I would any font (dragging into font book). Again, not sure if I’ve missed a step here
Ahhh yep, I hadn’t realised this, I followed the steps in the article that Georg shared, and now it works, which is great!
In terms of someone potentially purchasing the font I’ve made if I were to sell it, hypothetically, would they not just do as I had done (ie. add to Font Book) and expect it to work? Sorry if this is an extra question and needs a new thread / I need to research elsewhere on that—clearly there’s a gap in my knowledge here
If someone purchases your font, installs that version but then receives an updated file, they will need to clear their font cache for the new font to show up. Installing to Font Book is generally not a bad thing at all, it’s just a question of how to keep fonts up to date. When you are working on/with fonts as a type designer and/or engineer, you will probably update your exports many times a day, but that’s not a likely scenario for your end clients.
