Extrapolation not working

I am trying to create a extrapolated thin instance to use it as a starting point for a new thin master. I have a regular and black master which are interpolation properly.
The thin instance does not show anything though. I set up to Font Info > Other > Font typeto “Variable”.

First I tried to just create the instance. Then I added a master with the same name and added a “Disable master” to the typeface CP, then to the variable font settings CP and to the Thin instance as well.

Nothing worked to get an extrapolated instance that I could then convert into a new master.
I read a lot of similar topics in here but none could give me the answer.

Any ideas what I might have missed?

Leave your font type at Default. Don’t add an extra master. Just add your Thin instance at the location you want to extrapolate to, then use + > Instance as Master.
