Font name missing in some applications on Mac and PC

I am making a font that is only custom Glyphs and does not contain any alphabet characters, similar to Dingbats or Wingdings, and I can see that some applications on Mac and PC try to use the glyphs to display the font name in the system window or it just appears blank.

Wingdings and Dingbats seem to only have glyphs but display the font name correctly.

What do I need to do to get the font name to appear in the font selection dialogue window in English, not as random glyphs or a blank space?

This are ‘symbol’ fonts. That is a very old format that is difficult to produce with modern tools.

The best solution is to add the letters that are needed to render the name.
