Font with lots of Alternative glyphs

I am working on a font that has lots of alternative glyphs. I have used Character Variant tag on those alternatives (CV.01 etc). There are so much of these alternates that Stylistic Sets are not an option.

Now I’m having a problem because not every Design software supports the Character Variants. So is there something I can do? Maybe replace .CVxx to .saltxx or what is the best way to handle big amount of alternates?

Only if you want to trigger it automatically. If the user needs to be able to select it, you are stuck with cvXX.
