G4 – A few feedback items on UI scrolling, shortcuts, and metrics view

Hi everyone,

Congrats on the Glyphs 4 release! Overall it’s looking great, but I’ve run into a few UI and shortcut changes that are causing a bit of friction in my daily workflow. I wanted to share them here in case they are bugs, intentional changes, or something I can adjust in my settings:

  1. Layer panel auto-scrolling: When I click on a layer in the right sidebar, the Layers panel automatically jumps/scrolls back to the top. When working with many layers and weights, this makes navigating between them quite tedious.

  2. Option + Drag to select components: Previously, holding Option and dragging the mouse allowed us to marquee-select components easily (even for just one, to avoid misclicking). This no longer seems to work, and now components have to be clicked one by one.

  3. Option + Delete behavior on nodes: Selecting nodes and pressing Option + Delete used to open the path / delete the segment without removing the surrounding nodes. This shortcut doesn’t seem to trigger that behavior anymore.

  4. Metrics / Ruler view when zoomed out in Text Mode: When using the Text Tool with “Show Metrics” enabled, zooming out shows extra metrics lines / rulers across the view. Previously, it felt more focused on just the glyph’s bounding box and key metrics (X-height, baseline, etc.). Is there a preference setting to tweak this behavior without having to toggle “Show Metrics” on and off constantly?

Are these shortcuts customizable anywhere in the preferences, or were they hardcoded defaults that changed in this version?

Thanks a lot for your help and for all the work on this update!

This deletes the selection in all masters. This is changed behaviour since G3. Somebody here will know what the new shortcut for the old behaviour is – it still exists, it just changed shortcuts.

  1. I’ll have a look.
  2. that came up a few times and is fixed already
  3. This switched to Shift+Delete. As Sebastian mentions, Option+delete is delete in all masters (similar to a lot menu commands that are “in all masters” when you press the Option key).
  4. this sounds like this: measurement line doesn't go away after disabling - #18 by DaytonaMess

  1. Layer panel auto-scrolling:

It also happens to me. I also noticed auto scrolling when I was moving nodes:

Not sure if it’s very clear in the video, when I move a handle or a node by one unit with my keyboard the layer panel jumps.
When I move it by ten units or when I move it with the mouse it doesn’t happen
