Opening the colour palette for the second time crashes the app. The colour palette goes blank and clicking anywhere after that crashes the app.

That is fixed in the latest cutting edge version.
Oh alright! Thanks. By the way, it says, Glyphs is up to date from in app. Do we have to download the newer version separately?
There are two update streams for Glyphs: stable releases that have been testest for a long time and cutting edge releases that are published more frequently, but are thus also tested for less time.
You can get new features sooner by updating to the latest cutting edge version. Open the app preferences and in Updates check Show cutting edge versions to see cutting edge updates.
