How do I develop a glyphs plugin?

I am a graduate student, my teacher asked me to prepare to develop glyphs plug-in, I have no experience in developing plug-ins, I do not know what knowledge I should learn, I hope you can help me.

Thank you for your help. The research direction of our group is about font generation, which requires the use of glyphs
