How to create character combinations

I am creating an icon font, and assigning each of my icons a unicode value, I am looking for a way to be able to use my font within photoshop CS5, i can access the icons in illustrator and indesign by brining up the glyphs pannel.

I was wondering if there is a way to assign character combinations so that I can use it within photoshop, or another work around if anyone has one.

You could use the ligature feature for that.

Do you have Glyphs or Glyphs Mini?

On the last day of the trial, but probably going to purchase mini, is this possible?

The Mini Version does not allow to write your own feature code and you can’t manually assign unicode. So you would need the full version.

To add the combinations:
open Font Info > Features. Add a feature (lower left corner) and name it “liga”.
if you like the combination “arrow” to get a arrow icon, type:
sub a r r o w by arrowicon;

(You need all letters in the font to get a valid feature)
