Import outlines from another font

I use other programs to script/automate/add effects/simplify outlines and want to import the outlines into the .glyphs without losing the kerning, kerning groups and text tabs.

Right now all I can do is delete the glyphs in my .glyphs file and then copy and paste in the glyphs from the output of the external program (in this case FontForge) – this, however clears my text tabs (as the glyphs are deleted), but I can still import the metrics and kerning from a duplicate of the original .glyphs file.

Is there a script I don’t know of that can do this? Like an import and replace glyphs features or something?

You can use the cmd+opt+V (Paste Special) to only replace the current layers. This should keep the text strings intact.
