Inline font not vertically centered over solid font after export

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a typeface with two separate exported fonts:

  • A Solid version
  • An Inline version

Inside Glyphs, everything looks correct. The inline outlines are perfectly centered within the solid version, and all metrics appear to match between the two fonts.

However, after exporting and installing both fonts, when I use them in Illustrator and duplicate the same text, changing one layer to the Solid font and the other to the Inline font, the Inline font is positioned higher than the Solid one.

I’ve checked:

  • Sidebearings
  • Ascender/Descender values
  • UPM
  • Vertical metrics

and everything seems identical.

What I’m trying to achieve is the result shown on the right side of the attached image, where the inline sits perfectly centered within the solid glyph. Instead, I’m getting the result on the left side, where the inline appears shifted upward.

Has anyone experienced this before?

How do you ensure that when users simply copy/paste the same text and switch one layer from the Solid font to the Inline font, both fonts align perfectly on top of each other in Illustrator?

Are there any specific vertical metrics, hhea/OS/2 settings, or export options that I should be checking?
