Is this expected behavior for adding corner components?

I made a short video to demo the behavior I’m seeing.

I’m designing a font with strokes. When I click on an “extra node” and press ctrl-V to paste a corner node that I copied from elsewhere in the same letterform, it first does the blue circle thing which I normally take to mean that components are overlapping. When I try to paste again on a different “extra node”, the pasted component appears on the wrong corner node.

If this is expected behavior, could you explain what’s happening?

This is not expected behavior.

It works if you use a flat ending. And I would recommend doing it anyway. makes it much easier to align with the baseline.

I need to fix this.
