Kerning issue with broadcast software

Hi everyone,

I’m working with a client who uses Evertz broadcast software, and we’ve run into an odd kerning issue.

Kerning works perfectly in all major design apps (Adobe, Figma, etc.), but inside Evertz it’s missing.

Here’s the strange part:

They opened the same font in FontForge and simply re-save it without any changes, kerning suddenly starts working in Evertz.

That makes me think FontForge might be rebuilding or reordering something (maybe table order, checksums, or feature linking) that improves compatibility with older or limited renderers.

Has anyone seen similar behavior, or know what exactly FontForge changes that could make a difference here?

Any insight into settings or parameters in Glyphs that could replicate this would be really helpful.

Thanks,

Yang

Does FontForge maybe export a “kern” table in addition to the usual GPOS kerning table?

You could load both fonts in https://www.fontdev.app and compare which tables are present.
