Hi,
I have a variable font with kinks appearing in the S during interpolation. I have reviewed the Keeping Your Outlines Compatible tutorial many times, and used the Show Kinks plugin. My points all have the same vertical angle in all masters (as far as I can see). Proportions as similar as I can get them. Yet still the kinks appear both sides of the spine.

Can anybody see something here that I can’t? Any help welcome.
TrueType conversion (necessary for variable fonts j Glyphs 3) will add inflection points in these kinds of curves. Not much you can do against that, so your best bet is to insert them yourself and redistribute the handles to avoid kinks.
Or try it in the beta of Glyphs 4. You can either export the cubic curves directly, or get a better TrueType conversion that doesn’t need inflection points. Please try and report the results.
Can I run Glyphs 3 and 4 side by side?
Can you give me more information? I tried inserting new points already, but their angles vary wildly because the masters are so different. There is no hope of achieving angle parity between masters.
Angle parity is only one of the three conditions that all have to be met for a kink. Another is the relation of the lengths of the handles between masters. Keep that the same.
I have tried in Glyphs 4 Beta and the results look positive. Kinks disappeared when I exported cubic curves directly, as CFF2. Thanks for the suggestion, I will report back after further testing if the issue recurs.
