It simply adds points on the paths its intersecting, rather than cutting through.
I already fixed that in the cutting edge version. I just made the latest version public for all.
I currently have [648]; the update is not showing up for me.

The behaviour used to be like what happens with the pen tool – i prefer to use the knife tool since I do not have to be so exact and don’t need to zoom in.
