I have a problem exporting ligature carets in a symbolic font. I’ve named the anchors “caret_1” and so on, and I’ve specified the ligatures in the Features section. Is there anything else I need to do to resolve this problem?

No GDEF table is generated.
Can you check the glyph category (Cmd+Opt+i). It is most likely not set to “Ligature”.

But what do you need the carets for?
SMuFL fonts are intended for both music notation software and regular text processors, where musical symbols may be used inline. For the latter, the ability to move the caret within the ligature is very useful. E.g. changing sffz to sfz.
