Masters : Custom field is gray - can't edit it

Hi.

I’m messing about with masters, and I want to use the third proportion field, “Custom”. Unfortunately I can’t, since it’s grayed out.

How can I make it active?

The custom field is not jet supported.

I have an existing font file with a weight axis in place. If I want to add another axis for optical size rather than widtch, would it be a mistake to use the existing width boxes to create the new master since the custom field can’t yet be used?

This is no problem. Just use the width fields.

If i use the width fields for an axis other than width, how do i rename the axis, or instances?

edit - I just put what need in the Style Name - simple:-)

Yes. Weight and width are just generic placeholder names. You can use them for anything you like.
