Today for the first time I saw the missing glyph »DEL« (007F) in the Windows 1252 character set, seems to be a new entry in Glyphs 4. Am I right that it just has to be present, but should not contain any paths?

Should **not** be present in the font. What gave you the idea?

Oh wow. That is a mistake. Not sure how that one slipped through. Ignore DEL please. Will be fixed in the next version.

In addition to the unnecessary DEL, some glyphs are also missing from legacy character sets. Were these removed intentionally?

Windows 1252:

- softhyphen (uni00AD)

Mac Roman:

- Omega (uni03A9)
- pi (uni03C0)
- apple (uniF8FF)

Do not put `softhyphen` in your fonts anymore. Removing that one is definitely intentional.

The Greek letters are discouraged because they break Greek fonts in a system where both fonts are installed (a Greek and a Latin one with that handful of Greek letters) unless the user is very knowledgeable and knows how to circumvent the Greek problem. And there is a discussion in how far the Greek symbols were transferred properly to Unicode. Because instead of `Omega`, it should actually be `Ohm`, instead of `mu` better `micro`. (Only `pi` has always been the Greek letter only, no matter whether it is used as math symbol or not.) Keyboard layouts have been notoriously inconsistent in this regard, which is why some people even double encode. Current best practice: do not add Greek letters unless you are designing Greek. You are making things worse otherwise.

And `apple` (Unicode F8FF) is just a suggestion. Kind of a stretch because it is occupying a PUA position. We moved it to the _Typeable symbols_ filter because many Apple keyboard layouts have a key combo that produces F8FF. Hearsay has it that Apple does not like it if people add the Apple logo to their fonts though, so most people put their foundry logo in it.
