Paste Special: Content of active Layer always includes Background?

Has this always been like this, and if so, is this intentionally, that if I copy glyphs without a background to another master that have a background with these settings, it will clear the background from the target layers?

I find this neither intuitive/expected (it explicitly says “Content of Active Layer” (not Background) nor useful, as I think a common use case is to keep a master’s drawings in the background as a reference when adding another master’s drawings to the master.

Is there a quick workaround without the need of writing a script just to circumvent bg clearing?

Any idea please? : )

Anyone active here? :sparkles::broom:

If I remember correctly, yes, it had always cleared the background, which I also find unpractical. But the background is not a “layer” per say (as Glyph displays layer I mean). It would be nice to have the background as another option to enable/disable in the list.

@GeorgSeifert still wondering if there is a workaround before I invest time to write a script. A client needs the backgrounds preserved.

I added a “Background” checkbox. Will be out in the next cutting edge version.
