Programmatic off-curve points

Hi,

I have several variable axis and I’m trying to make masters compatible. I was using a script to make the duplicate nodes necessary but having difficulty creating the off-curve nodes programmatically between the selected node and the duplicated one. I started manually but its tedious affair having to separate the duplicate nodes, alt+click the path between and then recenter.

Any help much appreciated.
