I have Python installed but whenever I try to click the dropdown to change Python versions it doesn’t do anything. My Python installation is a personal one because nothing I tried using the built in version worked.
I should also mention that I’ve tried restarting my MacBook and the issue persists. I’m using MacOS Sonoma 14.7
Where is your personal Python installed?
The one from the Plugin Manager should work as well.
Could you describe the steps you took to install the built-in Python? Maybe that can help diagnose why it did not work for you.
I have multiple versions of Python installed. Some of them are bundled, like for Unity, but I installed the latest version of Python from the python.org website specifically for Glyphs. I’m not sure where the install is located, for some reason I can’t show it in its enclosing folder, but it seems to have installed correctly from everything I’ve tried.
Better follow the steps in the Extending Glyphs tutorial.
I should’ve mentioned that I tried that too. I ran the command and it executed but Python still won’t appear in the dropdown because the dropdown menu won’t even let me click it.
Then the installation of the Glyphs python, check the Repositories folder and remove the “GlyphsPythonPlugin” folder. Then reinstall from the Plugin Manager.
Delete the folder, even if it is empty. Then, go back to Glyphs and install Python from Window → Plugin Manager → Modules. Wait until the download has completed. Only then relaunch Glyphs. If an error occurs during the download, please post a screenshot here. We are aware of download issues on slow internet connections, but it might be something else.
I’m not sure why it worked this time and none of the times before but it appears to be fixed! Now my plugins don’t seem to be working but I’ll fiddle around with them more. It might just be that I need to reinstall them.
After selecting a Python version you need to relaunch Glyphs for the newly selected version to be used. Maybe that already fixed things.
