What reason would one have to develop a filter plugin over a script?
A filter can be applied on export.
That is true.
The only other reason I can see is commercial… hiding of source code, controlling updates etc.
Would it be true to say a filter can access the wider system or perform in-app functionalities that a script can’t?
The access of the API is the same. The filter can use other languages like ObjectivC or whatever the scripting bridge allows you.
