Shortcut setting issue in Glyphs 4 (macOS 14)

I’m hoping to set up shortcuts for navigation in Glyphs 4. I am mostly on computers still running older version of mac, because it’s hard to update the OS during ongoing projects. My current computer is macOS 14.

The good new is, this bug doesn’t seem to be a problem in macOS 26.

It does still work if I then set it up in system settings, but that is an annoying external process, and not easy to port between computers.

In particular, I want to navigate to the next/previous master, using control+option+command+down/up.

In Glyphs 3, I had to do this with system settings. I had hoped that it might be working in Glyphs 4, but it seems to have the same issue.

In G4 settings, I can seem to set the shortcut as expected:

…however, when I close out of settings, it doesn’t work.

If I quit & restart G4, then view the shortcut again, it now shows with no arrow key:

Perhaps this is just an indicator I should update my mac already. :slight_smile: Still, if there’s some kind of fix possible here, that would be more convenient!

Can you try a shortcut that doesn’t involve an arrow key?

Works fine for me without arrow keys. I use:

  • Cmd + Shift + plus/minus for next/previous master
  • Cmd + Option + plus/minus for next/previous glyph in the edit view (using the Freemix scripts, I still don’t know why this isn’t a native navigation option in Glyphs)

There are a lot default shortcuts in View > Navigation > Next/Previous Master/Layer …

Okay, yeah, shortcuts work well if I set them to control+option+command+[comma or period]

Are arrow keys pretty much a no-go for shortcuts? I suppose it doesn’t necessary matter a ton, since it works in newer macOS, but I’d be curious to understand better.

Arrow keys are handled a bit differently to other keys by macOS, so that might explain the issue. But you should be able to used them as well, so this is something we need to address.
