Smart components showing glitches in exported variable font

I was working recently on a custom variable font with „echo effect“.

Design breakdown:
Every letter has 4 axes (top, bottom, left, right). Every axe has 3 stages / breakpoints going from 0–30.

Those elemtents that come out of letters are made from smart components. They are made using slider going from 0 (invisible) –100 (full size) in every breakpoint.

Problem is that when i export it, the base version (with variables 0,0,0,0), effect is turned off but it renders tiny lines on the positions of smart components in Adobe apps (as in picture bellow).

Is there some easy way to not show those lines? I was trying very very hard of making intermediate layers and hiding smart components into letters but that process is very time consuming, and honestly nightmare to do :(.

Is there some other less painful way to resolve it?

I’d try switching to empty alternative/bracket layers at axis value 0

Hi, it doesnt work because its variable font so deleting parts of font and putting it in alternate layer ends up with error. If there is some way without deleting them but „not showing“ in the base part?

This can be done with alternate layers: Switching shapes | Glyphs
