Smart components with a multitool workflow?

What happens to smart components if a Glyphs source is opened in say, FontLab7? My reason for asking is we often rely on a multitool workflow where Glyphs sources are ‘fed’ into other type design applications.

What I really want to know is how the smart component’s behaviour is handled within Glyphs, and is this behaviour recognised by other external applications?

The only way to find out is to open it in the other app and check the results. I don’t know about the state of compatibility with other apps.

FontLab6 and 7 seem to alter the smart component back to its base form. oh well.

They probably just ignore the smart part.
