Variable + instances naming

Hi guys!

I’m just having a bit of an issue with font naming.
Basically, while in Illustrator, I would like to be able to pick the instances from the variable font file.
What’s happening now is having the variable font named as “fontName+Regular” and the font family named with the correct “fontName”.

How can I achieve what adobe has done with their variable fonts? Where basically you can pick the variable font and go through its instances as well instead of picking a “different font” (which is currently happening).

I hope this is not too confusing.
Thanks!

Did you define instances in Font Info > Instances?

Yeap!

picking a “different font” (which is currently happening).

What do you mean by that. Can you send a screenshot or screencast?

Here it is: https://vimeo.com/274678740/4f9104f201

You wonder why the one instance is extra? Can you send me the .glyphs file, that I can have a look?

Looks like I’ve just sorted this out
Basically, I’ve copied the Axes from the main Custom Parameters to each instance custom parameter.
Not sure if this is the best way to go but it seems that it did the trick

You shouldn’t do that. There is something else wrong. Can you send me the file, I’ll have a look.

I’ve sent it yesterday to support [at] glyphsapp [.] com

It seems to work fine for me. How did you install the font? Did you read this: https://www.glyphsapp.com/tutorials/testing-your-fonts-in-adobe-apps

Remove all instances of the font until it doesn’t show up in Illustrator and then export it again into to Adobe fonts folder.

It was definitely a problem on my side. I planned to format my mac yesterday and already had the chance to review the file and it seems to be working now.
Thanks for having a look at it though!
