Version 3.4 unresponsive as of today

Hello everyone, sorry if this has been mentioned already and sorry if this is on my end. Tried to open several different .glyphs files today, also tried to open Glyphs 3 directly, it was completely frozen upon opening. Mac indicates the application is unresponsive. Did I somehow mess up? I tried restarting my computer, to no avail. I don’t recall doing anything since yesterday that would make it become unresponsive today, yesterday it was working perfectly fine. Happy to send over anything that could be of use!

Try launching Glyphs (just the app, not opening a file) while holding down the Option (⌥) and Shift (⇧) keys. That prevents plug-ins from being loaded.

Thank you Florian, just tried that, to no avail. I tried reinstalling 3414, and it is not working either.

Perhaps you remember the file you worked on most recently. Could you temporarily remove that file (or those files) from your Mac, either by moving them to the Trash or compressing them into a .zip file and then deleting the non-zipped file. Then, launch Glyphs and see if that fixes it.

Oh! It actually somehow started working again; I was just able to open a previous file without issue. Super odd. I guess I didn’t reinstall 3414 the proper way and reinstalling actually worked? I don’t remember adding a recent extension other than RMX Tools but that was 2 weeks ago. Sorry to have bothered!

Great to hear it’s working!

Out of curiosity, what exactly did you change that made it work? Download 3414 again, delete the old app, and install the newly downloaded app? Or any other steps in between?

Basically, I downloaded the 3414 again, I tried opening it from my downloads folder directly, not from the Applications folder, and it wasn’t working - both versions were frozen. When I actually moved the new 3414 to my Applications folder to replace the old one and removed the newly downloaded files from my downloads, it worked. I however have no idea why it stopped working in the first place!

Thanks, that should help reconstruct the issue. We’ll look into fixing whatever caused the problem in the first place.

Thank you so much!

Hello, @FlorianPircher
Just to follow up with some additional context about the issue :
I experienced the same problem yesterday with the latest version. I tried to open a .otf that I exported from Fontforge, and Glyphs threw this error : The file is blocked, you can 'save as'...
When I clicked save as, the software bacame unresponsive.
I restarted my computer and reinstalled the software (version.3343 dowloaded from the Glyphs official page ), nothing worked.
In the end, I had to temporarily delete the .otf file to break the forzon cycle.

Do you still have the broken OTF file and could you share it with us so we can try to reproduce it? You can click my profile picture → Message to send it privately.

That’s very kind, thank you. It was a quick sketch I made a year ago in FontForge. Yesterday after all the technic problems, I just started from scratch in Glyphs.

When you open a .otf, you need to first save it as a new .glyphs file before you can edit it.
