Weird Issue with Variable Punctuation in Pixel Typeface

I’ve attached an example of the issue as well as my working file. The variable axis in this one is simple, the pixel goes from 1x1 to 5x5, but for some reason I get this really weird outcome with only punctuation (period, comma, hyphen, etc.)
