Whats the correct way to create instance for italic (two masters with same values)!

hi,

two .glyphs files for the same typeface one is Bold and the other is Italic
i have tried to merge the two into one .glyphs by +add other font from a font (.glyphs).
Now it’s two masters (Bold and italic of the bold)
but when create instances from masters glyphs tells me it’s not possible because Bold values == italic
there is no metrics different between the two except italic angle (which i have not assigned)

how to do it correctly

You would need a two dimensional design space and therefore would have to establish a second axis for italic.

Unless it is an oblique, it is probably better to keep the italic in a different file.
