Width Order in Adobe Apps

I am wondering if there is a way to make Condensed appear after Narrow in Adobe applications. Right now it just orders them alphabetically.

The sorting is controlled by the width-class. You need to give each one its own class in the order you like to have them sorted. Check the Handbook or this tutorial: https://glyphsapp.com/tutorials/naming

No, the widthClass. See the tutorial Georg linked in his answer.

Okay. Just did some testing - still not working.

Width: Medium (normal) : 5 — Normal
Width: Semicondensed : 4 — Narrow
Width: Condensed : 3 — Condensed

In Adobe Apps it appears
Normal - 5
Condensed - 3
Narrow - 4

Thoughts? Isn’t it supposed to appear, 5(normal, followed by 4,3,2,1 etc. I tried reversing Semicondensed and Condensed but still the same result.

Do they all have the same weight setting (shouldn’t really matter but just to try if it makes a difference).

And how do you test? https://www.glyphsapp.com/tutorials/eliminating-font-cache-problems

Yup. Same weights on all three.

Can you send me the .glyphs file please to support (at) (this website without www). I will have a look.

I have just sent you an email, with the ordering issue recreated. Thanks

I had a look at your file. You created three different families and families are always ordered alphabetically.

The ordering with width and weight class happens inside one family.

I’ll add a clarifying paragraph in the tutorial.

So, after all you cannot order different families non-alphabetically.

btw, preferredFamilyName is quite useful. I didn’t know that one before.

also thank you for taking a look at the file. appreciate it!

Yes. You can order by widths etc. only as long as they carry the same family name.
