Subject: Serious regression in Glyphs 3.5.1 (Build 3532) affecting legacy Japanese font files

I upgraded from Glyphs 3.2 to Glyphs 3.5.1 (Build 3532) and encountered several serious problems when working with existing Japanese font files.

1. Outline editing and preview problems

  • Existing font files created in previous versions exhibit the same behavior when opened in Glyphs 3.5.1.
  • When I use Edit > Clear, the preview disappears.
  • Assigning new outlines to the affected glyphs does not make them appear in the preview.
  • The Correct Path Direction function, which works normally in Glyphs 3.2, appears to have no effect on these legacy files.
  • Both outline editing and Correct Path Direction work normally in newly created font files in Glyphs 3.5.1.

2. Incorrect glyph mapping for small kana

  • Small Japanese kana used for contracted sounds and gemination appear to be mapped incorrectly between glyphs named with vert. and hori. prefixes.

3. OTF import behavior

  • When opening an OTF font, the kana outlines are not displayed in the editing area, although the preview remains visible.

The Master Compatibility View is disabled. Enabling it does not change the behavior.

These issues affect existing font files regardless of their original version, while newly created files work normally. This suggests a possible regression involving legacy font data or its interpretation in Glyphs 3.5.1.

This is a serious issue for Japanese typeface production, as recreating a font containing approximately 10,000 Japanese glyphs would be an enormous undertaking.

Could you please investigate whether this is a known issue and advise on a safe workaround or a fix?

I can provide a sample file and further reproduction steps if needed.

Could you send me files that show the mentioned problems? You can use a private message in the forum or send it my email to support at this domain.
