It seems that with the latest update on the menu path and ‘add selection to background’ (Alt+Cmd+J) option has gone (option stays in gray, now, not allowing it to be selected). What happened?

For the record, you do have a selection active in the currently selected layer?
It looks like the bug is when more than 2 nodes are selected. I’ll add a note where the issue might be, @GeorgSeifert.
