I had a look at the NaN filters that Rainer mentioned above. And there were mostly compatible with Glyphs 3. I fixed most of them. Need a bit more time to clean it up.

I was thinking some random vector lines (small, up and down) looking like some brush markings and I could simply paste them into a shape (glyph) for that effect, not sure it would have worked.
I have Affinity Designer, I think there are svg brush effects, have not investigated yet.
The font outlines are already done in Glyphs, I presume I can export them out and back in again. But I hope to work on a different font idea so would look at what Designer can do initially then import to Glyphs.
