Batch Copying of Glyphs within a single Master

Hello.

Apologies if this is obvious, but is there a way of batch copying all of my Upper Case glyphs (A, B, C etc.) directly into a set of extant but empty Small Caps glyphs (a.sc, b.sc etc.)?

In my first (Regular) master I created all of the .sc by duplicating and batch renaming using the Find/Replace tool, but now that I am working on the second (Bold) master, it will not let me duplicate and rename the Glyphs to .sc because the name already exists, and if I try to create a new set, it destroys all the Small Caps in my first master.

The only two solutions I have found are:

  1. Copying the glyphs one by one; or,
  2. Saving the file as another, creating a new set of small caps and copying them back to the original.

Surely there must be a more obvious way that I am missing.

Many thanks in advance.

Shouldn’t the Bold masters in the .sc glyphs already contain the Bold outlines? Or did you draw the Regular .sc before you drew the Bold uppercase?

You can use the Paste Special (Command+Option+v) to copy paste individual masters.

Hi Georg,

Thanks for getting back so quickly! Normally I wait until the very end to make the Small Caps, but this time I made them before starting on the bold master, so all the ones in the bold master are currently empty. My plan was to copy the paths from the Upper Case, scale them down all together and then adjust the individal glyphs manually.

I will try Paste Special again, but last time it didn’t do anything. I fear I am using it wrong. Can I select and copy all of the Upper Case letters with Paths then paste them to their corresponding .sc? Or do I have to do it one letter at a time.

Many thanks in advance. Next time I’ll wait until the end to make the SC like I normally do.

All the best,

I just tested, and this worked for me:

  • Select the uppercase glyphs and hit Cmd + C to copy
  • Select the corresponding SC glyphs (in my test I had them in the same order)
  • Hit Opt + Cmd + V for Paste Special
    • Select Paste to: Selected glyphs → All data

That pasted the glyph data into the existing glyph slots for me with no problems.

That’s brilliant, thank you! It absolutely works. I hadn’t selected “All Data” last time which is maybe why I was having trouble.
