Bizarre outcome in InDesign using my font

I used some sample text copied from a Jazz magazine that I formatted in Adobe InDesign to test a typeface that I am working on (as I often do). There were some strange outcomes involving the space glyph. Occasionally, within the text, the space would vanish! Not always, but just some of the time. See my visuals below. I set the exact same text with Myriad and no problem!

can you copy paste the “space” from the myriad example into UnicodeChecker? I suspect it is a nonbreaking space or something like this. And you font has a none spacing version nsspace??

Is there any feature code (calt, liga especially) that might be at play? Can you test your font in fontgauntlet, explicitly deactivating all OT features?

Edit, now that I see Georg’s message: his suggestion is much more likely relevant.

Georg is correct! My non-breaking space had zero width. That was a first for me

I am assuming that the source article included non-breaking spaces, which got carried over into my inD file.

Thanks for the answer, Georg!
