Which is the best way to copy a string to the clipboard? I’m writing a script for spacing strings and I would like to know how to do this. I know I can open a new tab with that text though.

There is a snippet with clipboard handling code in the Python for Glyphs repository. See the Extend page (all the way at the bottom).
