do you know a mathematical formula for calculating the straight stems correction? It’s about correcting the width of the slanted stems so that they look the same in italic. Here is a tutorial, but unfortunately without a formula.
You can have a look at the Italify plugin (which hasn’t seen any development in a long time, sorry), there is something akin to that in the “smart Italify” section.

I’m also interested in how cursivying works. Are the letters slanted and rotated at the same time? For example, with a cursive angle of 8 degrees. The letter is rotated by -4 degrees and slanted by 4 degrees? How do you ensure that the horizontal elements remain horizontal?
Cursify doesn’t quite work like that. Again, check out Italify, that rotates and slants (by a custom ratio, even). Smart Italify tries to rotate round segments and only slant straight segments.
