Deriving a bold master from existing masters

Hi Glyphs team!

Let’s say I have two masters: light and black. And I want to add a bold master which is—apart form some details—an almost exact interpolation between light and black.

Is there a way to add a bold master that is already an interpolation between the light and the black master without having to redraw the complete weight?

Thanks,
Nicolas

Add a Bold instance in the Exports tab, if there is not one already, select it in the list of instances, click on the :plus_button: plus button in the bottom left and choose Instance as Master. That will add a Bold master to the Masters tab.

More details:

  • Add an instance in Font Info > Exports, at the location you want your master at.
  • Select that instance and click the + button in the bottom left, click “Instance as Master”.
  • You will now have a new master generated from that instance, which you can edit.

Or, if you say you are only changing some details (which details?), then you might be better off adding intermediate layers for the few glyphs that you want to change the interpolation in.

Thanks so much!
