I’ve drawn a Medium font, and need to turn it into a full family of 14 fonts with various weights and italics. My plan was to interpolate them using multiple masters; however, will I still need to draw an additional font to get that to happen? Or can I expand the family simply from one master?
There are some ways to make a copy of your current master and then use automatic filters to make that copy lighter or bolder or slant the outlines, but those filters will not preserve the structure and overall design of your typeface. Generally, italics and other weights need to be draw by hand. You can then interpolate between those weight, such as using Medium and Bold to get Semibold in between.
