So my file is all messed up when it comes to exporting kerning and spacing. Basically, the kerning is correct in optical mode (i’ve tested this on all the adobe programs I’ve used), but way off in metrics mode. The opposite is true for spacing. It’s correct in metrics mode, but off in optics. If I use my font in other applications, it’s just all messed up. My husband and I have read through different forums trying to correct the problem and we just can’t. Retreat is a word that’s a good example. When you’re typing it it looks like it will be right but once it’s typed in the kerning messes back up. Also the thumbnail shows up all messed up and i can’t figure out why.
How did you set up the kerning? Are you in LTR (left to right) mode? Have you set kerning classes? How are you testing your exports?
Can you show the outlines (in Glyphs) of your D, for example?
And read this: Eliminating font cache problems | Glyphs and if you have adobe apps: Testing your fonts in Adobe apps | Glyphs
Hey there, So I’ve got the kerning set to left to right, I’m still going through and double checking all the kerning pairs/groups. I figured out how to test my exports in the Adobe Apps and have read both articles sent. The font cache was already cleared, but sadly that didn’t fix it. Here is the outline of the D, maybe I’m just not using these tools correctly to draw shapes? I’m still learning.
Optical kerning is automated kerning applied by InDesign. Metric kerning shows the kerning in your font.
Make sure that there is no right to left kerning left. Switch the edit view to RTL and open the kerning panel. Remove all pairs if there are any.
It looks like you’re not using kerning groups, I highly recommend you do. Have you read this?
