As you’re so rigorous in your thinking I’m sure there’s a good answer, but:
why can we not export fonts from the font info window? (someone who’s spent years [accidentally] trying)

I just tried. For a long time, hitting Cmd+E in the font info window didn’t do anything (bud didn’t drove me crazy enough to fix it). But is seems to work now. It switches to the main window. But that might be OK.
