External monitor(s) recommendations?

Hi community!
I’d like to buy an external monitor, and would like insights.
Do you have recommendations/preferred ones?
Are matte monitors a thing for those who tried them?

Get one with the right resolution. Meaning 24" with 4K, 27" with 5K or 31–32" with 6K.
Most modern screens have good enough colors for type design and daily use. If you also do a graphic design and photos, you need to check the colors a bit more in detail.

If the mate surface is useful depends on your room. If you have bright surfaces (e.g. a window) behind you that could be visible in the reflection of a glossy screen, then a mate one might be better. In most cases a glossy screen looks better (imho).

Samsung viewfinity s6 24-27-32 inches are 2.5k and really good with usb-c connection (charging included) many usb ports + ethernet

I would always pick a “Retina” screen. There are finally some great options.

Hey Cat, I can recommend the Apple Studio Display, pricey but worth it. Only other displays with 27” 5K are LG and Samsung S9. The 4K 27” panels like those we had in TypeMedia still had too visible pixels, so I wouldn’t go there, but if those were fine for you, they are a lot cheaper

There are several new monitors with 27" and 5K no. I saw one from Asus. They have a 31.5" with 6K for the price of the apple display.

You want the pixel density and physical dimensions to match such that the display falls either in the “Retina” or “non-Retina” category, but not between those two. There is a great graphic that describes this relationship:

This chart is from this website which has more details:

Thanks for all the answers. Glad I asked. I was checking out the BenQ PD2730S | 27" 5K Designer, which seems good in terms of price/characteristics, but I’ll dive into the other recommendations you wrote!

I thought for some time about Apple Studio Display, but I’m tired to give Apple my money, so I was searching for some other options eheh

I have the Studio Display. It is a great monitor. When it came out it was the only option…

The Asus ProArt Display PA27JCV is even cheaper than the Benq.
