Sorry if this has been posted or if the feature exists, but I couldn’t find anything about it.
Sometimes I have a bunch of glyphs (it could be different SS, smallcaps, usually some glyphs I’m not sure if I want to keep) that clutter up the glyph overview. It would be nice to be able to temporarily of forever send them to the archives.
What you recommended is what I’m doing now. I just figured it would be a bit easier with an archive.
It would work as most archives in apps. Archive and forget, unless you want to retrieve it again. I don’t know how to describe it better than an “archive”. A trash can but without the emptying? Negative filtering perhaps? But without actually having to activate filters.
You’d select your glyph(s) and then hit “Archive” in a context menu. And inside the archive you could put glyphs back into the main again in a similar fashion.
I think one of the upsides would be that you don’t have to select filters all the time, as I’d prefer this cleaner view always. A better overview of the design, and easier to select a group of glyphs.
I guess it would suffice if there was a way to always have a filter “on”, as I believe now it only works if I click the filter in the left sidebar?
I agree with @Henric; an option to archive glyphs could be a good feature.
Glyphs set as “Not Exported” do not always stay not exported in all instances. A common example is glyphs for rlig. A good way to handle them is to set them by default as not exported and only export them in VF instances.
For me, a glyph marked “Not Exported” doesn’t mean it will always remain not exported but will be not exported most of the time (at least for more than half of my instances).
Also, when a .glyphs file is manipulated by many designers, it can be tricky to know if a glyph marked “Not Exported” is used in the font (maybe as a component) or if it was just a draft.
