When I’m a reviewing a glyph but don’t want to edit the current master layer, I usually create a layer and make the changes in that. I name it something like “suggested”. Or, sometimes I make a change to a glyph but want to keep the original because I’m not sure I want to keep the changes, so I duplicate the layer before making changes and name that non-master layer “original”.
Is it possible to add a smart filter for something like “Has Layer Name”? That way, if I wanted to see just the glyphs that I’ve made changes to, the filter would only show those glyphs which have a layer named “original” or “suggested”, or whatever it may be.
Just reminding you of this again. I know you’ve got a never-ending list, so I understand the wait. I very much appreciate all your work, so please don’t read this as a complaint, just a reminder. I’m a squeaky wheel here in search of oil
I use color labels here and there for sure, but there are a couple reasons why that’s not my ideal solve. It’s distracting to me to have one or more color labels on things. Color coding everything also influences my workflow in ways I don’t like. Those effects might be psychological, which isn’t to say they aren’t real, only that they might be unique to me.
Simple color labeling is also too much of a broad brush for me. In most instances, I’d prefer the ability to filter things at a more granular level. For example, there might be a glyph I’ve adjusted quite a bit from where I had it previously, so I’d make a layer of where it was originally and label it “OG” for “Original Glyph”. If that was all I was doing, then I’d agree that color labeling might be a good solve (psychological effects of color notwithstanding).
But let’s say that I’m also thinking about making a stylistic alternate for the same glyph. At this point, I am unsure though. Rather than creating an entirely new glyph with only a half-baked idea, I just want to make a couple quick edits to a copied layer before moving on. I’d name that layer something like “ss01”.
There’s no way that I see for me to filter glyphs into separate lists if there’s more than one layer name by which I’d like to do so. Does that make more sense or am I missing a more obvious solve?
